Pound Hill Software, a leading developer of metadata software tools, has updated its MetaGrove dialog for the PDF/A Extension schema. This schema was first released May 2008. This update incorporates a clarification on the "value type" open vocabulary that was received from the PDF/A Technical Working Group. MetaGrove is a software suite of products that provides custom XMP metadata capabilities to users of Adobe Creative Suite CS2 and CS3.

PDF/A is a standard for archiving electronic documents so that they can be displayed accurately in the distant future. XMP metadata depends on out-of-band schema information for the complete interpretation of the metadata. The PDF/A Extension schema is is essentially an XMP Schema Definition Language for XMP properties. A PDF/A compliant document that contains custom XMP properties in its metadata, will have those properties defined in PDF/A Extension Schema entries. The PDF/A Extension MetaGrove dialog permits the MetaGrove Plug-in for Acrobat to capture, display and edit the PDF/A Extension metadata. Example: A scientific journal PDF that contains PRISM metadata would, in addition, require the PRISM XMP properties to be defined in PDF/A Extension schema to schieve PDF/A compliance.
