Pound Hill Software Creates MetaGrove Dialog for VRA Core 4.0 (full)

Pound Hill Software has created a schema and dialog for the Visual Resources Association's VRA Core 4.0 metadata standard (http://www.vraweb.org/projects/vracore4/index.html). VRA Core 4.0 XMP is a port of VRA Core 4.0 XML metadata schema to XMP. It provides VRA records to describe the Image, Work (pictured), and Collection for cataloging cultural objects. MetaGrove is a software suite of products that provides advanced XMP metadata capabilities to users of Adobe Creative Suite.


VRA Core 4.0 Standard

VRA Core 4.0, released 2007-04-09, is an XML metadata standard for the cultural heritage community. It provides a categorical organization for describing works of visual culture, such as artwork and architecture, as well as the images that document them.

MetaGrove implementation

The VRA Core 4.0 XMP (MetaGrove) schema (.sch) is a faithful, element by element, attibute by attribute, container by container representation of the VRA Core 4.0 XML schema. The schema includes the seven containers of identical "VRA records" that are nested up to two layers deep.

VRA Core 4.0 XMP MetaGrove dialog is implemented as three menu panels that require horizontal scrolling. Each VRA record has 719 possible fields.
-The Collections (container) panel accesses Collection VRA records, each with a container for related Image VRA records and a container for related Work VRA records. Each Work VRA record itself has a container for related Image VRA records. The panel has 2876 fields for user entry.
-The Works (container) panel accesses Work VRA records that are not associated with a Collection. Each Work record has a container for related Image VRA records. The panel has 1438 fields.
- The Images (container) panel accesses Image VRA records that are not associated with a Collection or a Work. The panel has 719 fields.
The dialog provides the full detail and full capacity of the VRA standard for metadata embedded into digital images. This dialog operates with the MetaGrove Plug-ins for Mac.
